ABOUT US

Project Description

NSA is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, which operates within the Neath Port Talbot County Borough. NSA PCCARE was established to help bridge the digital divide to deliver digital inclusion training. The key aims and goals of the organisation are to deliver activities and projects which address the following:

  • To improve the Environment.
  • Provide training for socially disadvantaged individuals with the aim to progress into further learning, training and sustainable employment.
  • To provide Volunteering opportunities for individuals to promote active citizenship.

As ICT has become a basic skill for education and employment it is important for people who are unable to access technology to be able to participate in training in order to make them digitally capable during this technological age.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that ICT and access to the internet are key factors for economic growth and social inclusion. Amongst many underrepresented groups and individuals the uptake of any new technologies can be daunting and without support from projects such as NSA PCCARE these groups and individuals can fall behind from fear or lack of knowledge and understanding.

NSA PCCARE currently provide ICT Services to the community which include repair workshop and a ICT Reuse - Recycle Scheme. The project now offers innovative Community ICT training and Digital inclusion programmes tobusinesses, third sector organisations and community members.

Recycling project is helping close the digital divide

Jul 30 2009 by Rachel Moses, Port Talbot Guardian.

A NEW innovative community recycling project has been launched in Port Talbot.

The aim of the programme is to build confidence and work skills while greatly reducing ICT waste within Neath Port Talbot area.

Layton Emery, PCCARE's project leader explained: "We are excited about this new reuse and recycle initiative."

"It will allow us to offer real work-based placements, training and volunteering opportunities as well as providing working computers, for a small fee, to those who cannot afford to buy one. It's a means to reuse waste instead of just recycling it. We will be helping to close the digital divide, improve job prospects by building work skills and increasing confidence while, equally as important, reducing waste."
